Scrutinized England manager, Fabio Capello, has chosen the friendly game against Hungary to begin his shake up of the squad after the dismal performances shown by star players during the World Cup in South Africa.
England face Hungary at Wembley tommorow night (Wednesday 11th August 8pm GMT – ITV1) where the players are prepared for an angry backlash from the few supporters that have decided to make the trip to see the team. The FA slashed ticket prices over the past few weeks fearing a desert stadium.
It has already been a tough week for the Italian coach as Wes Brown and Paul Robinson both retired from national duty after been called up by Capello to feature in Wednesdays game. The community shield match between Chelsea and Manchester United also called into question Capellos communication as he seemed astonished to see Michael Carrick play despite being told he was unfit for international duty – and also an apparent snub from possibly the most hated playing in the Premier League, Ashley Cole.
Newcomers that Fabio has picked for the Hungary friendly include Joe Hart, Jack Wilshere, Kieran Gibbs and Michael Dawson.
Hungary, who also had an understandably dismal World Cup losing to Germany 6-1 and only winning coming from a scrappy 1-0 against Denmark, should be easy opposition for a team with England stature but the un-predictable “star” players give little confidence to fans.
At most this game is going to be chance for the few England fans in the stadium to vent their anger at the manager and the South African flops but hopefully Capello can take away useful information on the upcoming players in the English game to build on towards the qualification stages of the Euro 2012 which starts in September.
