Platini predicts two more officials by Euro 2012

Euro 2012
Plans by UEFA president Michel Platini to have two more officials stationed behind each goal have been boosted by the FA agreeing further testing on the plans.

The test officials will be seen in professional games in a number of countries as they see whether or not it is worthwhile. Platini is backing its success has expressed his interest in getting it into full operation before Euro 2012 begins.

It could help to prevent a number of questionable goals for example in the game between Manchester United and Tottenham last season when a long range lob from Spurs was clearly over the line but as the referee was too far away and the linesman was holding the line with the last defender the goal was not given. An official behind the goal would have given it.

A decision is hoped to be reached by 2011 and if this is the case it will feature in Euro 2012.

Other interesting proposals to the game are an orange card which will have a "sin-bin" punishment and extending half-times to 20mins long.
