Ukraine struggling with Euro 2012 deadline

The preparations for Euro 2012 in the Ukraine have been slipping further and further behind major deadlines to have the country ready for the tournament which it is co-hosting with Poland.

UEFA have been forced to give then country until the 30 November to show signs up significant development for the tournament with the completion of stadiums, accommodation and transport links all have a long way to go.

Celebrations after winning the honour of hosting the tournament were massive and the tournament has the public right behind it. Shakhtar are the company building the brand new stadium in Donetsk which is set to have a capacity of 50,000. The building of the stadium is said to be on top for the tournament however the infrastructure around it including road, airports, hotels and parking are lagging far behind.

Plans to build a 4-star hotel are on hold due to lack of financial backing available.

The 14th UEFA European Football Championship will be held between the 8th June and the 1st of July in Poland and Ukraine. The decision for the two countries to jointly host the biggest competition in European football was made in Cardiff, Wales by UEFA on the 18th of April 2007 - Croatia and Italy were not successful in their bids to host the Euro 2012 football competition. Euro 2012 is set to be the last competition to have 16 nations participate - in Euro 2016 it is set to expand to 24 competing nations. The current holders of the cup from Euro 2008 is Spain, who also won the World Cup 2010 in South Africa.
